What is a Martial Artist?
In Tang Soo Do a Martial Artist is someone who strives
to be the best they can be through both physical and
mental training.
We chose our school symbol to reflect our beliefs about
what a martial artist should be.  The seven stars
represents the constellation (URSA MAJOR), or the BIG
DIPPER, which also stands for "GREAT BEAR" the bear
is a large and powerful animal that usually moves slowly
and deliberately but yet can be quite fast if it has to be.
The Bear is admired for its strength, adaptability,
resourcefulness and intelligence.  It uses these qualities
only to live in harmony with its environment.  The Bear is
not aggressive and will always try to find a way around a
confrontation.  However, if it is cornered and has no
other choice, the Bear will use those same qualities to
defend itself and it's young, becoming an unstoppable
force of power.
The seven stars also stand for the seven tenets of Tang
Soo Do, which a true Martial Artist will always strive
towards.  These tenets are:
1 Integrity.
2 Concentration.
3 Perseverance.
4 Respect and Obedience.
5 Self-Control.
6 Humility.
7 Indomitable Spirit
As a student of the Martial Arts you will discover, as we
have, that striving to live by these codes will enhance
not only your training but also your life.
